Fighting Ebola with High-Speed Satellite Internet

Fighting Ebola with High-Speed Satellite Internet

Broadband Satellite Internet provided by Leokonnect is available for rapid deployment providing high performance and stability in rural areas where infrastructure is weakest and case loads are highest.

The challenge

Securing vital Internet connectivity provides critical communications for medical staff tackling the Ebola crisis. In regions widely affected by the outbreak such as Sierra Leone many areas lack the infrastructure required to provide reliable Internet connectivity. To accomplish simple tasks such as email and telephone conversations previously required a drive to the nearest location with high speed access or the use of painfully slow connections.
High speed internet connectivity at the “last mile” could make the difference in patient survival and will enable doctors and healthcare workers to collaborate via video conferencing and Internet voice communications from remote locations.

With the prospect of Ebola becoming a longterm global health crisis, together with our regional partners we are providing the tools that we hope will help fight this disease.

LIFE-SAVING TECHNOLOGY

The Solution

Bentley Walker has successfully deployed a Leokonnect C-band Satellite Internet system at the Ebola Treatment Centre in Port Loko, Sierra Leone. The service primarily enables medical staff there to liaise with colleagues globally using high-speed Internet for common tasks such as electronic transfer of patient data, telemedicine and

coordination of treatment efforts as well as maintain contact with loved ones back home. NGO aid workers can also make use of the service to provide lab results, place requests for equipment, or inform healthcare teams that a patient needs to be relocated.
Performance and reliability guaranteed
Our in-country partner recommended a C-band system as the region is subject to periods of heavy rainfall which can subject the systems to signal fade. These effects are typically less pronounced on C-band frequencies, combined with the latest adaptive coding and modulation provides optimal stability in all weather conditions making it the delivery method of choice.
Key Benefits:
For satellite Internet services in regions subject to high rainfall evels, C-band is a popular choice. Our flexible capacity solution provides bandwidth scalability as demand for the service increases ensuring that the service always meets the needs of its users.
